Fintech VC in 2022: Overview
While 2021 was a record year for the fintech venture capital market, in Q3 and Q4 of 2022, investments in fintech startups began to decline.
Let’s take a look at the fintech VC statistics in recent months.
🟣Although fintech is still among the leaders in venture capital funding this year, investing in fintech startups has declined in recent quarters, going back to its pre-2021 level. Fintech globally raised $13.4 billion in Q3 2022, which is 64% down from the record Q4 of 2021.
🟣Seed and early-stage investments have also decreased sharply. In Q4 2022, there were 145 fintech investment deals, with a total investment of $2.1 billion.
🟣In Q4 of 2022, 62 fintech unicorns were launched, which is 58% less unicorns than it was in the last quarter of 2021. 40 of them were built on top of blockchain.
🟣In Q3 of 2022, venture capitalists invested over $5.5 billion in crypto startups. In addition to banking startups, Web3, NFT, Metaverse, and gaming startups gained leading positions in late quarters of 2022. In November, for example, the NFT startups raised $31.8 M, Web3 companies raised $378.55 M, and blockchain-based games managed to attract a total of $320 M.
🟣Though being a hot topic, funding of AI startups has also decreased this year – AI-based startups are predicted to raise 36% less than in 2021.
